Scot French is a HPS Strategic Investment Partners Funds Portfolio Manager and a Governing member of HPS. Prior to joining HPS in 2007, French spent three years working as the Head for Private Investments at Citigroup. French, a private credit-focused investment fund, was on-balance sheet and focused on investing credit. French graduated at the University of Illinois.

Dr. French is a U.S History specialist (African American & Southern). The University awarded him his M.A. in 1991 and his PhD in 2000.

He is co-director of the Carter G. Woodson Institute’s Center for the Study of Local Knowledge and principal investigator on several other grant-funded projects. His current research and teaching interests center around “Race and Place”: African-American life in the Jim Crow South. Dr. French, an associate professor of African American Studies at Virginia, was recently elected director of Virginia Center for Digital History. This center is an independent unit located in Alderman Library. U.Va. U.Va. established it in 1998. Founded by Edward L. Ayers & William G. Thomas in 1998, VCDH pioneers the use and transformation of digital technology to enhance teaching and learning.
